Here’s a quick update on Ainsley: she’s now almost three days old and is still in the infant care ward. She still needs oxygen through a nose tube but they have been weaning her oxygen levels lower and lower, which is a good sign. Her respiratory rate is still pretty high which means she’s working hard to get the oxygen she needs. We’re hoping and praying that the resp. rate goes down over the next couple of days. The doctors took another x-ray this morning to see if her lungs are clearing up and they said the x-rays looked “the same to slight improvement.” This means she’ll probably be here another four or five days after today to complete a full dose of antibiotics. The doctors are confident that she’ll make a full recovery.
The good news is that she’s breastfeeding well. She’s very alert and Johanna and I have gotten to spend some really precious time with her. Johanna was discharged from the hospital last night and is doing well, but it was so nice to be right down the hall from our daughter for a while. It was pretty rough on both of us to have to come home without her but the staff at the hospital has been wonderful and we take comfort in knowing that she’s in such good hands when we’re not around.

Mom & Dad with Ainsley...

Johanna’s mom, Linda, got into town this afternoon so we’re looking forward to having her help and wisdom in the coming weeks.
Hopefully our next pictures are tube free! We love you little Ainsley!
