Love them baby legs!

I know as a mother I'm destined to love every part of our little girl but I just can't get enough of her long skinny legs. I adore these baby leg warmers I got as a shower gift and have been counting down the days till her little limbs had enough chunk to hold them up. And yay! Today's the day! I just love them baby legs!

Visit from my Mom & Brian

This past weekend, my mom and youngest brother, Brian, came for a visit. This was the first time Brian met Ainsley and the first time Mom has seen her since she was 3 weeks old - so we all had a lot of fun. And thankfully, they were both so sweet and flexible about being on Ainsley's schedule because at times she made things quite interesting.

We hiked Mount Bonnell to show Mom and Brian a view of the city, which brought back some nostalgic memories because the last time George and I did this I was pregnant and now we have our wee with us.

It was an absolutely gorgeous weekend to be out and about so we also visited Austin's botanical gardens and, because it seems I just can't stay away, the pumpkin patch again. And I'm pleased to say we actually bought pumpkins this time.

My mom has masterfully knitted Ainsley several sweet things and here she is working on Ainsley's baptism blanket.

Thanks for coming to visit Mom and Brian! :) This duck sure does keep life fun.

**Side note - this post was entirely done on my new Mac thanks to all the comments and help I got from the Iphoto vs. Blogger post. Thank you!!! :)

Pumpkin Patch

We have a great little pumpkin patch close to our house and have frequented it a few times so far this fall. First, Ainsley and I went when my best friend Rachael, her mom, and little Trip visited us for the day this past week when George was out of town. We went during nap time, so Lou was pretty tired but we got a few good shots.

While we were there, I saw this great pile of pumpkins being ignored by all the other moms taking pictures of their little ones. Score, I thought, a perfect pumpkin throne for my little diva. Only later did I realize that these were the rotten pumpkins and I was the only bad momma to make her child sit on them! Oops... Not to mention she was so tired, she couldn't hold her head up anymore. Double bad momma!

Then a few days later we visited the patch with the new moms group from church, this time with all the kiddos in costumes. Everyone was too cute and this time Lou had just woken up so although she was a little overwhelmed and not quite full of smiles, at least her eyes were open. Here's all the mommas with their little kiddos....

Ellie, our good friend from California who has graciously shared Austin with us, and her lady bug Claire...

My little fairy, minus the wings, with her "really mom?" expression. Already a teenager...

Tutus and little mice

A few days ago we got Ainsley's fairy costume in the mail and it was a very exciting day for me!! Up until this point I have been looking for any justifiable reason to get Ainsley one of those preciously, girly-girly tutus and Halloween proved to be all the excuse I needed. When it arrived I was completely prepared for it to be itchy and for her to hate it, but much to my surprise, she seemed to LOVE it, immediately playing with and tasting all the layers. I was such a tom-boy growing up so I'm trying to groom her to love all things sugary and pink. And from the looks of these photos, it might be easier than I thought!

As I mentioned before, I wasn't expecting her to like it, which is why she is just laying on the ottoman with junk all around. But then when she wouldn't stop smiling and giggling, I grabbed my camera and snapped away. Sorry there are so many.... I just couldn't resist.

I couldn't help myself and also got Lou this little mouse costume because I've made several comments to George about how when she nurses she puts both her paws on either side of her mouth and looks like a little mouse. This costume was a little big which gave her lots of extra fabric to play with, although she was most interested in trying to figure out how to get her mouth to reach her feet.

Iphoto vs. Blogger

Hello out there.... for my birthday (and since I'll be starting school soon) I got a new computer. After much debate, I went back to my roots and got a MacBook Pro. I've fought and struggled to readjust to all the nuances that make up a Mac and am left with one puzzle that I can't figure out. How do I upload pictures from iphoto to blogger? I've posted this question on blogger and Mac discussions alike and have yet to hear a response. So since I know several blog-buddies read this I thought surely someone must use both iphoto and blogger and could help me out. Please!!! Please!!! Until then, I am laboriously moving pics to George's computer in order to upload them. This could be a deal breaker for me and my new Mac, so please help!

Knuckle Sandwich

Third Month Snapshot

We didn't have a doctor's visit this month so her at-home estimate for weight is approximately 11 pounds. I tried to get an estimated height but she is just too squirmy.

Development: Ainsley is full of new tricks this month. When she's on her belly she can lift her head 90 degrees, she's rolling over one way (although I don't think she totally understands that rolling over saves her from being on her stomach), she laughs and squeals and just started making this raspy razz sound, she is still sleeping through the night (YAY!) and she loves to sit (in her chair or with support) and play with her toys, her hands, or anything else she can put in her mouth.

She also just realized how to spit and apparently when you are 3 months old the absolute best time to spit is when you're supposed to be going to sleep. She'll just lay in her bed spitting away, content as can be until she realizes that the top of her pjs, her entire face, and the bedding around her are wet and cold from her slobber and then she's not happy about it. This is one trick we're hoping she forgets... soon!

Likes: As I have mentioned in previous posts, Ainsley loves to be sung to and she has a distinct preference of songs she likes more than others. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that her favorites are none other than Beyonce's "Put a ring on it" and Chris Brown's "Forever". Of all the lullaby's, praise and worship hymns, and made-up songs we sing to her, who would have guessed that two R&B/rap songs would be the ones she clings to.

Ainsley also loves her Infantino toy cow. This is annoyingly funny because the other day I had that bad mommy feeling because she is starting to become really interested in her toys and this cow was about the only one we had. So I got online and rush ordered her a bunch of toys so that she would be "properly stimulated". Well wouldn't you know, that as soon as all her fun new things got her she couldn't have cared less. And still, the only one that makes her smile was this little cow that we've had since day one.

Dislikes: Ainsley doesn't seem to like the bottle anymore!! Ah!! How did we let this happen? I can literally feel all my freedom going down the drain along with all the refused milk. She was given so many bottles in the NICU that we thought we were in the clear with this one so we got a little more relaxed about it. Plus we had a little trouble finding the right bottle nipple flow for her, ie. she is now using the 6+ month fast flow nipple and she still seems to get frustrated with it going too slow! Along with the fact that I love to nurse her and it is so quick, easy, and always the right amount and temperature. But now with me starting school in a few months and not to mention needing a cure for my stir-crazy moments, this is one trick we NEED her to relearn!

However, on a brighter note, she isn't hating her medicine quite as much anymore. Now she simply lays back and opens her mouth. I think she knows that after her medicine she gets fed. :)

My favorite things: Something so funny about Ainsley is how when we're home it takes a series of things to get her to fall asleep (dark room, noise machine, paci, shushes and pats, and inevitably there are a few cries) however so far every Sunday at church she has quietly fallen to sleep in my arms with no fuss. Definitely God at work! Another one of my favorite things is how when she is sleeping on her tummy she cranks her left arm behind her head and rubs her hair... or lack of hair because she has an oval bald spot back there from moving her head from side to side when she is sleeping on her back. And my absolute favorite moments are how when she's done nursing she looks up at me with a big sweet smile and coos, as if to say thank you. These moments make all the crying, explosive diapers, spit up spots on my my clothes, and tiredness worth it.

Who do I look like?

By request, here are the few digital pictures I have on my computer of George and I when we were little. I'll let you be the judge on who you think Ainsley looks like. George....

or me...

Toyland

Now that Ainsley is beginning to realize that her hands are actually hers, she is starting to get some traction in the toy department. It is really sweet to watch her fascination with her toys and so funny to see her cooing and laughing at some and concentrating intently at others.

The hanging monkey on her play gym is her little buddy and always gets lots of coos and smiles.

Giddy Up

Being the wonderful sentimental pack-rat that she is, my mom saved this cowgirl outfit from when I was little. When I was hugely pregnant, we had such a good time exploring boxes and boxes of old baby clothes from my brothers and me and selecting a special few to dress my little girl in. This was one of those outfits... although I was a much plumper child and the window of time when this actually fit was much shorter than it would be for Ainsley. The picture below of my brother Matthew and me was taken when I was 6 to 8 weeks old and this sweet little number is cutting off the circulation in my arms, legs, and neck. Ainsley, on the other hand, is twice as old as I was and still has plenty of room to wiggle. She must have gotten her Daddy's genes on this one.

And because I couldn't help myself, here's her cute little cowgirl ruffled tush...

First Roll

Until one day this week, Ainsley couldn't stand being on her tummy. She would whine, squirm, usually spit-up and overall act like she was being tortured. We have been putting her to sleep on her stomach lately for naps (she sleeps on a sensor that monitors her breathing, so no risk of SIDS here) in hopes that she would get more comfortable with being on her belly and apparently it worked. She still doesn't love this position and still often times spits up, but now she has more neck and back strength and can tolerate it more. Then early one morning a few days ago without a fuss she rolled over for the first time!! I was shocked and started screaming to an unappreciative George, who was still sleeping at the time, to come see. Yesterday I even managed to get it on camera. In the video she looks kinda like she just falls over, but she's done it almost 10 times since her first roll, so something in that little brain of hers has to be clicking.
