Here's the latest on Ainsley: The doctors continue to backpedal on the date that she will be able to leave the hospital. They are now saying it will likely be another week before we are able to take her home. This is hard for us to hear. I think the hardest part is having to constantly reset our expectations of when she can leave. It would have been much better to have thought it would take two or three weeks from the beginning, instead of thinking we could take her home after 5 days, then 7 days, then 10, etc.
Ainsley is still requiring about the same amount of oxygen and hasn't really shown much improvement on that scale (although we have noticed some inconsistencies among the nursing staff's willingness to adjust her oxygen intake). Yesterday morning, they took another x-ray of Ainsley's chest. Of course, the x-ray turned out to be overexposed and therefore wasn't as useful as we had hoped, but it showed some improvement. Right now the doctors just think it's taking a while for the inflammation and infiltrates to clear out of her system. Apparently the pneumonia was pretty widespread in her right lung and therefore won't clear out so soon.
On Monday, the doctors will probably do a echocardiogram on Ainsley's heart to rule out any problems there. An echocardiogram is basically an ultrasound and therefore is not invasive at all and can be done without having to move her to a different location.
Ainsley will be finishing up her 10th day of antibiotics today and the doctors will decide if they want to continue the antibiotics or not. My guess is that they will, given that she still has an oxygen requirement. It would be nice if they didn't have to though, as then they could remove her IV and she would have one less tube.
Aside from the medical stuff, Ainsley is doing wonderful. She's eating really well and is gaining weight; she now weighs a little over 7lbs 12oz. Her face that was thin only a few days ago is now getting chubby and round. She's playing more and likes to stretch out her arms and legs when she's awake. (see below)

I hate that you guys are having to go through this - it's hard enough the first time around without complications. She looks wonderful though - she's definitely gaining weight and is getting cuter and cuter every day. I wish we were there to sit with you, tell you funny Fry boy stories and cuddle with Ainsley, but just know we think about you constantly and that all three of you are in our prayers. Give Ainsley a kiss for us and tell her to hurry and get better because her Aunt Leslie can't wait to hold her. We love you guys. Stay strong - you're doing a wonderful job!
I am praying continually that she gets well soon, I know it's hard when you weren't expecting, but God is faithful to you.
And Nadia had an echo last fall and it was a piece of cake, even with her toddler wiggly body. She just didn't like the "goop" on her chest and belly. LOL.
