For Austin, this winter had been a chilly one and school has been canceled several days for weather conditions including semi-snow, ice, and just plain cold temperatures (which were still only slightly below freezing). This is pretty sad considering other parts of the country are getting real winter weather and functioning much better... but here in the south, people just don't know how to cope, so the whole city shuts down at just the thought of winter weather.
On one of these "snow" days there was actually some white stuff on the ground. This excited the kids to no end. Earlier in December, Ainsley had been very disappointed when she realized that we would not get snow at Christmas because in all the pictures and books there is always snow on the ground. Once we explained it to her that our winters were too warm, she was so cute in saying randomly throughout the month that "It does not snow in Austin, TX!" in a very matter-of-fact voice. So this morning she was thrilled and kept running around saying "This is the most awesome day ever!" Picking up on her excitement, Bailey kept pointing to all the windows saying "snow! snow!" They both quickly bundled up and headed outside. It all turned out to be mostly ice rather than true snow but still, they were over joyed. Ainsley has seen true snow once in Missouri but this was Bailey's first experience with snow. He thought it was a lot of fun and kept poking patches with sticks.
At one point, Ainsley found an accumulation on Bailey's swing and she started yelling, "Snow!! Bailey, come look at all this snow!!!" Honestly it was the most pathetic little few inches of mostly ice snow but they both stood looking over it and running it in their hands for a few minutes. We have got to get these kids in some real snow next winter!
The trampoline had a sheet of slippery snow on it and the kids had a lot of fun jumping and falling all over themselves. I wish you could hear all their giggles in these pictures. They had such a hard time staying on their feet!
Then after about 10 minutes of playing outside, Ainsley deemed this the most coldest day ever came inside for hot chocolate. She is always looking for even the slightest reason to have hot chocolate but today really was the perfect day. She might not be our snow bunny yet.
Bailey on the other hand stayed outside much longer and became fixated on cleaning up all the snow. He was trying to sweep it all up saying "No snow" over and over again. He made it through about half the yard before he decided it was time to come in.

Even if it wasn't much, it was still fun to have a change of pace and actually get wear some of my sweaters. ;)
