Barton Hills Farm

Another fun activity we did as a family at the beginning of November was taking a trip to Barton Hills Farm.  It was a little spur of the moment so we didn't get to take full advantage of all their activities or stay as long as we would have liked but it was a gorgeous day and we will definitely be making a trip back next year.  I had to post two family pictures above because one is each so cute of one child.  I just couldn't choose who should have a good picture.  Either way we are on one of the farm's giant family swings.  So fun.

The first big hit was this cow "train" ride.  Again, George was quite the trooper to ride with the kids because the driver drove wild, fast, and far away!  Here they are before the ride got started...

Look how far away they went... a field away!

Wild and crazy driving from the bearded farmer.  :)

Coming in at the end of the ride!

Ainsley loved it!  She wanted to ride again and was brave enough to go all by herself since once was enough for Daddy, who lured Bailey else where.  Here is the before and after for her second turn.  As much fun as she had, even she admitted at the end that it hurt her bottom.

Another big highlight of the day was this bouncing bubble.  It is so odd but genius!  It is like a giant trampoline that sits on the ground and is inflated with air.  The kids had a blast!

And eventually Daddy joined in on the fun as well.  I again, sat this one out.  Can you imagine me, at the time 8ish months preggo, jumping on this thing - yikes!  But it did look like fun.  Maybe next year...

The key to Bailey's heart was this huge pirate ship sand box.  He was enamored with it from the moment we stepped on the property.  It was pretty cool and I know that both kids would have spent quite a while playing and imagining here if we had more time.

But instead we moved on to feed the goats before the farm workers kicked us out for the evening.  I was surprised how much Bailey loved feeding these lil guys.  He just wanted to feed them more and more and was smiling so big the whole time!  Ainsley has always loved doing petting zoo type things so it was no surprise that as we were leaving, she was crying because "The goats are just going to be so sad and miss me so much!"

It was really such a beautiful farm and a gorgeous afternoon.  It just felt so pleasant and peaceful to be out in the country.  George and I both commented on how refreshing it was to "get away" even if it was just for a somewhat hasty afternoon.  We forget sometimes that we are both country kids at heart and that even though we love and have grown accustom to the conveniences of living in a city, there is something that will always be lacking there for us.  Realizing this makes us both so excited about the house we are building on the land as we hope that we are, in a way, able to capture the best of both worlds.
