Well, they say that challenging stuff comes in threes and we're hoping that the saying is true and that we're at the end of new challenges for a while. This has been our past 2 weeks.
1) My back flare-up (see previous post) has continued and although I'm doing all I can to protect it, it is teetering on the verge of getting worse.
2) Last Tuesday we spent the night in the ER with Bailey who was excessively vomiting after toppling over and hitting his head. That morning he pulled himself up to a kneeling standing position (which is something that has been new in the past few days) and then let go/lost his balance and hit the side of his head on the head wood floor. :( I was standing right there ready to catch him but he fell to the opposite side and I wasn't fast enough. Lots of tears but no bump, no bruise, no blood and he was pretty tired so I of course felt bad for him but didn't think too much of it. Then that night when we were about to put him to bed he started vomiting everywhere and after a few phone calls to the pediatrician on-call we made the connection between his behavior and his fall and based on her direction, took him to the ER. (George rushed him there and I stayed and put Ainsley to bed and then joined him as soon as our sweet friends could come over.) They did a catscan which praise the Lord came back clear and normal and then after he nursed without throwing up again, sent us home with the diagnosis that his fall caused a mild concussion. :( It was a long night, full of anxious waiting but Bailey was such a trooper and did exceptionally well considering he was tired (and the drs kept waking him up) and hungry (and they wouldn't allow me to nurse him until we got the catscan results.) George and I joked that with Bailey's adventuresome personality so far, this likely won't be the last time we spend the night in the ER worried about him. He takes after his father in this - Pam, how did you cope?
3) Then last Wednesday night while George was playing basketball he ruptured his achilles tendon. Sigh. He was sprinting after a loose ball and heard a loud pop followed by some pretty intense pain. He says it felt like someone hit him with a baseball bat in the back of the ankle. Thankfully he was playing with his primary care dr and a physical trainer so he was in good hands and got referred to a good dr. He tore the tendon completely and is scheduled to have surgery on it this Thursday morning. He'll have to be in a boot for 6 weeks following the surgery with limited mobility and won't be able to drive. Then he'll have to do physical therapy for another 4ish months and probably won't be back to 100% (ie. running) for another 6ish months.

So right now our sweet 2-year old is the most capable person in our house. Kinda sad. George and I have joked that combined we almost make one fully functional adult. But thankfully George's mom and my mom are coming to our rescue to help out during George's initial recovery time.
