So, we've officially been Californians for 2 weeks now....well, sorta, we still have Texas license plates and speak with a little twang, but other than that, we blend right in! Above we are sitting in front of our apartment. It is hard to tell from the picture, but there are 4 units and ours is the upper left. It is on a quiet residential street surrounded by trees, has just enough space, and a great back deck.Below is a picture of Alcatraz, which sits in the San Francisco bay. We took a ferry over to the island and then went on an audio tour about the history of this former prison. It was so eerie and fascinating.

We have been trying to explore all the green space we can out here before George has to start school. There is just so much and it is all so beautiful! Below are some pictures from a recent hike around the Purisima Creek Nature Reserve.

We have also had the opportunity to explore wine country a bit with some friends we met at admit weekend who live in the area. Here is Tom and Pam and us at a winery in Sonoma. They scheduled a day full of great wine and great food and we had a blast!

Glad to see you're getting settled -- send the boys postcards when you get a chance. You've got a few they made (no scenery -- tanks and Star Wars stickers, of course!) headed your way. Hope things are going great. Good luck with school, George!

I can't even begin to say how jealous I am! I'm itching to move back.
Thinking 4 months in the future, this is Christmas in Texas year for you two, right? It better be, 'cause we've been trying to get on the same schedule as you! Anyway, if it is, we should still try to coordinate so that we can get together when we are in CA. Also, keep in mind that if you are free the first weekend in December my family will be having their huge yearly gathering. It is tons of fun, and you are certainly invited. I meant this whole "you have family on the west coast whether you like it or not" thing!

We miss you terribly! It sounds like you guys are having a great time exploring in California. We loved Alcatraz and the wine country (well, I liked the wine country more than tim, but it was still fun)when we visited last summer. We will continue to pray for you guys as you make this transition. It is bittersweet for us to see you go! Love you!!! Timily
